Recent research has highlighted that the typical physical activity levels of individuals within the entire population are decreasing at all key stages of human development. This trend is particularly strong within the child and adolescent age groups. Studies have also shown that well developed motor skills are a precursor of successful and continuing engagement in physical activity. The investigation of how motor skills may serve as an antecedent of physical activity, therefore, is seen as an important focus of research in the sport, behavioural, and health sciences.

The International Congress on Enhancement of Physical Activity and Motor skills is an important forum for the dissemination of information that will contribute towards the evolution of theory into practice. Additionally, the Congress serves to promote cooperation between individuals involved in research and those who are responsible for the implementation of programs associated with engagement in physical activity. The Congress will allow for opportunities to highlight and share knowledge from a broad range of scientific domains that are currently hosting research in the area of motor skills and physical activity including pedagogy, developmental psychology, neurology, neuropsychology, exercise physiology, biomechanics, medical science, cognitive science, and coaching science.

The key aim of the Congress is to gather experts from each of these areas to present their perspectives so as to assist in the continuing development of research into the teaching and learning of motor skills. Delegates attending the Congress will have many opportunities to liaise with each other to both acquire new ideas and share current information in regards to future studies and improved practices in the area of motor skill acquisition.
